Background

The following points highlight the need for Agricultural Water Management Company services:

• Water is essential for farm production; be it directly for irrigation and animal watering or indirectly for processing and washing down.

• There are increasing pressures on water availability for farmers. These pressures are practical, legislative, social, contractual and environmental.

• At the same time, there is increasing pressure for farmers and growers to take action in this area, to reduce costs, protect the environment and enhance productivity and quality.

• In addition, there is evidence that farmers are being supplied with poor quality, overpriced products and services in this area.

• There is currently a gap between the high-level policy work of organisations such as the NFU and the local action groups such as BAWAG.

• There is currently no other organisation that provides the full range of water services that farmers need.

Therefore, there is a need for an organisation that advises on the whole range of water issues from a policy to a practical level. AWMC will address this need by being the primary provider of water services for farmers.

AWMC was founded by Andrew Alston and Jacob Tompkins in 2003 as a one-stop-shop for farmers and growers water needs.
